The Spam Firewall is always running and constantly updates ifself with the most current spam blocking information in an effort to counteract constantly evolving spam and virus techniques.
However, there are instances where the Spam Firewall detects questionable, or suspect, e-mail. For instance, a common spam technique involves the use of ".zip" attachments. There are many situations where your business associates or friends will send you legitimate .zip file attachments. The Spam Firewall's Quarantine Inbox feature allows you to make the final determination in these instances.
Here's how the process works. When the Spam Firewall detects a suspect e-mail, it routes it into a Quarantine Inbox set up specifically for you. The Spam Firewall then sends you an e-mail notification informing you that you have quarantined e-mail to review. A link within that notification e-mail takes you directly to your individual Quarantine Inbox where you will then decide how to handle each suspect e-mail.
The Quarantine Inbox allows you to "Deliver", "Whitelist", or "Delete" suspect e-mail.
- Deliver - releases the e-mail from quarantine and immediately sends the e-mail to you.
- Whitelist - adds the sender's e-mail address to a list of addresses that you will always accept e-mail from, regardless of content.
- Delete - permanently deletes the e-mail and reports the e-mail as spam, allowing the Spam Firewall to learn which e-mail is spam.
The process takes place in two steps. First, indicate which e-mail you wish to act on by using the checkbox in the left column. Second, select the appropriate action from the three Actions listed in the "Actions" column.
You may also checkbox multiple e-mails, and use the three buttons above the e-mail listing to Deliver, Whitelist or Delete groups of e-mail.
