Spam Firewall Overview
The Spam Firewall is a self-sufficient network device placed between our mail server and the Internet. The Spam Firewall scans each e-mail and utilizes a combination of defensive layers to filter out spam and viruses while allowing legitimate e-mail to pass through.
Anything that is obviously spam gets blocked. Anything that is obviously real email is just passed on to the mail server. If there is any doubt about the proper categorization, the Spam Firewall places the suspect e-mail into a Quarantine Inbox set up specifically for you.
Once a day, if you have new messages in your quarantine, youll receive an email from the system. This email contains a list of the quarantined messages for you to review. Next to each message are three links, Delete, White list, and Deliver. Just click on the appropriate link and youre done. You Delete the spam, and either White list or Deliver any good email. If you White list, then any future messages from that sender are also delivered, even if they look like spam (viruses, on the other hand, are ALWAYS blocked).
In addition to your Quarantine Inbox, you have your own unique, password-protected, Preferences area that lets you control the spam filtering on your mailbox. Your account is initially set up with relatively conservative, default Preferences. But you have the option to either strengthen or relax your spam filtering.
The net effect is a significant reduction in the amount of spam you receive and a flexible process for accepting and rejecting suspect e-mail quarantined by the system.
