Note:
We have used 'yourdomainname.com' throughout the instructions. Please substitute your actual user id and domain name (Ex: firstname.lastname@yellowcircle.com or mail.yellowcircle.com) in place of 'yourdomain.com' and 'johndoe@yourdomain.com'.



Oulook comes in two versions: Internet Only and Corporate/Workgroup.
To determine which version of Outlook you are configuring:

Open Outlook and click on the Tools Menu. Scroll towards the bottom. If you see:

Accounts - Then choose:
Services - Then choose:


How to Configure Outlook 2000 for Internet Only

  1. Open Outlook 2000.

  2. From the Tools menu, choose Account.



  3. Double-click your primary email program in the list.



  4. Click on the Servers tab.



  5. The Incoming mail server (POP3) and the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field should both be set to mail.(yourdomain).com.  Important: Be sure that in the Account Name field, you type your full email address (e.g., johndoe@yourdomainname.com).

  6. Check the box next to My server requires authentication.

    Note: Do NOT check Log on using Secure Password Authentification (SAP)

  7. Click the Settings button.



  8. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

  9. Click the OK button.

  10. Click the OK button.



  11. Click the Close button.



  12. Congratulations! You have successfully configured Outlook 2000 for SMTP Authentication for Internet Only.



How to Configure Outlook 2000 for SMTP Authentication for Corporate and Workgroup

  1. Open Outlook 2000.

  2. From the Tools menu, choose Services.



  3. Select Internet E-mail in the list.

  4. Click the Properties button.



  5. Click on the Servers tab.



  6. The Incoming mail server (POP3) and the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field should both be set to mail.(yourdomain).com. Important: Be sure that in the Account Name field, you type your full email address (e.g., johndoe@yourdomainname.com).

  7. Check the box next to My server requires authentication.

  8. Click the Settings button.
